Johan Marijn Oudheusden ’54

Johan Marijn Oudheusden ’54 of Westport, Connecticut, passed on October 20, 2020, following an extended battle with cancer. He was born in the Netherlands, from which his family fled when he was 7. The family relocated to Rye, New York. Johan graduated from Rye High School. At Dartmouth he pursued the 3-2 program with Tuck School and earned his M.B.A. in 1955. He was a Delta Upsilon brother, a cheerleader, and part of Foley House. Following graduation he served in the U.S. Army. Having completed his military obligation, with a bent as an entrepreneur, and he then took his wife, Sally, and their growing family to the Netherlands. There he had a career in importing and distributing and reveled in travels through Europe until a return to the United States in 1967. He founded Pronto Printer in Connecticut in 1969. In the 50th reunion book, Johan expresses thanks for America having accepted him as an immigrant in 1942. At the time of our 25th reunion, Johan wrote, “My life is divided into two parts: the before and after I recognized Jesus Christ as my Lord.” The before included divorce at the end of a 17-year marriage, a second marriage, and a growing feeling “my life was not satisfying.” The after phase began in 1975 “with a new appreciation for my place in His creation.” Johan is survived by his wife, Joyce; children Wendy, Peter ’81, Lauren, Julie, and Alexandra; stepchildren Cherlyn and Wendy; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by stepson Steven.
