Edgar Leland Lamb Jr. ’54

Edgar Leland Lamb Jr. ’54 passed away in Anchorage, Alaska, on January 12 after a lengthy illness. Ted came to Dartmouth from Stephens High School in Rumford, Maine, where he excelled academically and athletically. Ted did not stay long at Dartmouth, leaving in March of 1952 to join the U.S. Air Force and become a pilot. In 1957 he left active duty and joined the Maine National Guard. He then pursued a major in chemical engineering at the University of Maine. In 1963 he volunteered for recall to active duty and served in Vietnam for the next four years, another chapter in his aviation career in Asia. Ted moved in 1968 to Laos, where he met and married his wife of 50 years. In 1974 they made Alaska their home and Ted continued to fly for several bush airlines. He also joined the Alaska National Guard, from which he retired with 20 years of military service and the rank of major. Ted was awarded several decorations, including the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, and Air Medal. Ted loved the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, and camping, as well as travel. He is survived by his wife, four children, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
