Thomas K. Barnett ’51

Thomas K. Barnett ’51 died on April 25 in Austin, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, four children, and seven grandchildren. His father, Joseph J. Barnett, was a member of Dartmouth’s class of 1913. Tom attended New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois, before going on to Dartmouth. In college he served as president of Sigma Nu and was a member of the Interfraternity Council and Dragon. As an active alumnus he was a member of the class of ’51 executive committee. After graduation he spent two and a half years as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. He later earned an M.B.A. at Santa Clara University. Tom spent 40 years in senior sales and sales management positions with Cook Paint and Varnish Co. in the industrial paint business. His long career with Cook took him to San Jose, California, and later to Houston, where he served as southern division sales manager. He and his family lived in Houston for more than 40 years. Golf was a longtime love, and Tom was good at it. He scored several holes in one through the years, the first at the Hanover Country Club. Tom built lasting friendships with people from all stages of his life. Friends and family fondly remember him for his kindness, loyalty, keen sense of humor, and lifelong quest to perfect his golf swing.
