Sarah Grow ’97
Sarah Grow ’97 passed away on January 9 after a 28-month battle with leukemia. Born September 3, 1975, Sarah came to Dartmouth from Yakima, Washington. She majored in government and Spanish and was active in Circulo Iberoamericano, Model United Nations, and World Affairs Council. She earned a master’s in international affairs from Columbia. An experienced U.S. diplomat who worked in embassies and consulates in India, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Washington, D.C., Sarah was also a master of languages and was fluent in Spanish, Italian, Turkish, and Farsi and conversant in French and Serbo-Croatian. Sister-in-law Mollie Greves Grow ’97 recalled: “Sarah and I were both from Washington State and I was drawn to her. Frankly, I was star-struck by her poise, grace, and remarkable way with language and culture.” Numerous friends remembered Sarah fondly from their Italian language study abroad (LSA). Jenn Tudder Walus ’97 remembered: “I had many adventures with her on our LSA in Siena, Italy, and her zest for immersing herself in local culture was a huge reason that period was so special to me.” Andrea Meacham Rosal ’97 noted, “Sarah’s presence, light, and fight has made a huge impression on me—I will always think of that strong and radiant smile, and I will always be inspired by the engagement and light she gave our world.” Sarah is survived by husband Jiyar; daughter Liana; parents Carol and Bob Inouye, Dr. Tom Grow ’60 and Lynn Chase; brother Joel; and many relatives and friends.
