John C. Shevlin ’65

John C. Shevlin ’65 of Palm Springs, California, passed away on February 7. John was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, but spent most of his youth in St. Joseph, Missouri. He graduated from Dartmouth with honors and from Stanford Law School in 1968. John worked briefly at the California Court of Appeal before forming Schlecht, Shevlin & Shoenberger in 1971. John was an active member of numerous charities and organizations, most notably the Palm Springs Community Concert Association, which he served as president, director, and secretary. A lover of opera and classical music, he worked to bring world class concerts to the Coachella Valley through service with the Palm Springs Friends of the Philharmonic. He is a former director and president of the Palm Springs Public Library and the Friends of the Palm Springs Library, a former director of the Desert Hospital Foundation, and a member of the Palm Springs Rotary Club. After retirement John pursued an M.A. in liberal studies at Dartmouth, receiving it in 2020. An avid world traveler, his thesis was “Travels Across America,” documenting his road trips across the country with his wife of 50 years, Carolee, and dog Rylee. He is survived by Carolee, daughters Rosemary and Nancy, and granddaughter Mia Rose.
