Vincent Henry “Bill” Vermooten ’60

Vincent Henry “Bill” Vermooten ’60 of Lawrence, Kansas, and previously of Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on January 3 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Bill was born on February 9, 1938, in Johannesburg, South Africa, the son of Vincent and Esther DeBerdt Vermooten. He graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas in 1956 and served six months active duty and two years reserve in the U.S. Army. He graduated from Dartmouth with a major in English and from the Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1965. His law career was primarily in real estate and title insurance and oil and gas. A lifelong Anglican, Bill was an avid reader and read for Kansas University Audio-Reader in Lawrence. He also enjoyed training in martial arts. In 2007 he won gold for forms in his division at the American Taekwondo Association World Championships. He achieved the rank of third-degree black belt. He married Virginia “Ginger” Koger on February 19, 1972. She survives him with children Jessica and David and granddaughters Isabella and Annika.
