Zachary Boyages ’52

Zachary Boyages ’52 passed away at home on February 4 after a battle with cancer. He was born on January 18, 1931, in Chelsea, Massachusetts, attended Everett (Massachusetts) High School, and earned his A.B. in English from Dartmouth. He was a member of Sigma Nu, played baseball, and was captain of the basketball team. After graduation he completed the Marine Corps officer candidate school program in Quantico, Virginia, and was assigned to the aviation intelligence school at the Naval Air Station in Alameda, California, before being sent to Korea with the 1st Marine Air Wing. He returned from Korea as a captain in 1954 and then joined General Electric Co.’s three-year business training course. Upon completing the program, he and Marjorie Buitenhuys married and enjoyed 20 years together before she died in 1977 of cancer. Zack spent his 36-year career with GE, taking early retirement as manager of finance with the aircraft engine group. He found the time to try to perfect his golf game as a longtime member of the Bear Hill Country Club in Stoneham, Massachusetts. Zack was honored to be recognized for his participation and contributions to sports when he was inducted into the Wakefield and Everett High School athletic halls of fame. He is survived by children Lynda, Michael, and Rick and seven grandchildren.
