John M. Baldwin ’55

John M. Baldwin ’55, M.D., passed away in Twain Harte, California, on November 21, 2020. He is survived by Jeanne, his wife of 48 years; daughters Nancy and Cynthia; sons John Jr. and William; and six grandchildren. John was born in New York City and came to Dartmouth from Pelham Memorial High School when he was 16. He took a premed course of study while majoring in English. John was president of Gamma Delta Chi and a member of the Glee Club. After graduation John earned his M.D. from the Cornell University Medical School. He completed his residency at the University of California, San Francisco. In 1967 John was drafted into the Army as a major and was assigned to a field hospital in Vietnam, where he performed more than 2,000 operations. For his service John received the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal.
