Donald Hendricks Kennedy Jr. ’54

Donald Hendricks Kennedy Jr. ’54 passed away on November 25, 2020, in Phoenix after a four-year battle with cancer. Don came to Dartmouth from Martinsville (Indiana) High School, majored in sociology, and was a member of the rowing team and Delta Tau Delta. After service in the U.S. Army Don eventually found his way into the insurance business in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he enjoyed a long and successful career. He was a dedicated, lifelong scholar of all things political and social, an avid reader, an editorialist, a published author of four books, and a lover of classical music and fine arts. He also coached rowing and competed individually in masters regattas across the country. Don was outspoken in his conservative views and for many years, until his declining health intervened, maintained an email political commentary with a core group of friends and classmates. He was a dedicated watchdog of big government and campaigned for an informed electorate. Don was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie, and is survived by four children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
