Suzanne (Michels) Obenshain ’98

Suzanne (Michels) Obenshain ’98 passed away on Sept. 25, 2020. Suzanne’s 43 years were characterized by confidence and a determination to live life to the fullest. Her freshman year of high school, she decided to attend Dartmouth. Suzanne graduated summa cum laude, majoring in economics. She went on to work as an investor at well-known private equity firms. Suzanne balanced professional success with dedication to family. In 2001 she met her future husband, Andrew Obenshain ’96, with whom she raised three children. In 2012 Suzanne and family moved to Paris to fulfill a dream of living abroad. During five years in Paris and two in Zurich, Suzanne immersed herself in her new life. In France she served as chair of the board of the American School of Paris. In Switzerland she worked at an oncology-focused venture capital firm. She also shared countless adventures with family, instilling a love of travel, learning, skiing, and hiking. In February 2019 Suzanne was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. She immediately dedicated herself to returning home and battling the disease. She spent her last six months with family at Pleasant Lake in New Hampshire and passed away at her home in Waban, Massachusetts. She is survived by her husband; children Thad (14), Noelle (12), and Zachary (9); parents William and Mary Michels; and many others. A celebration of Suzanne’s life is scheduled for next fall.
