Kerek Edward Frierson ’82
Kerek Edward Frierson ’82 of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, passed away on March 27, 2020, from Covid-19 exacerbated by complications from a chronic illness. Kerek was fond of his time at Dartmouth, where he was a premed student. Classmates recall a gentle, quiet, and thoughtful person with whom a conversation was always interesting and uplifting. Kerek was an excellent trombonist and played in the Barbary Coast. Fellow Barbary Coast member and classmate David Silbersweig remembers Kerek as a gracious and warmhearted person with a lovely smile. Classmates say that Kerek, whose soft-spoken kindness and generous spirit were always reassuring, was a true gentleman. After Dartmouth Kerek got his master’s from Vanderbilt University. He worked for several years doing clinical research for the Veterans Administration and in the pharmaceutical industry. More recently Kerek taught biology and anatomy at Motlow College and owned a small cleaning company. Kerek was a man of deep Christian faith with a boundless love for family, jazz, and the piano and trombone. He was both a reader and a writer, with a great fondness for science and science fiction. Kerek also enjoyed teaching, writing for, and working with young people and contributing to their growth. Kerek was predeceased by his twin brother, Kevrek. His mother, Ella Frierson, died just a few days after Kerek at the age of 87. Kerek is survived by sisters Keva, Kezlyn, and Kreda and many family members and friends.
