William C. Bates ’63

William C. Bates ’63 died in his sleep at the Avon (Connecticut) Health Center on October 29, 2020. Bill was from West Hartford, Connecticut; came from a Dartmouth family; and attended the Loomis School, where he was active in lacrosse, soccer, the newspaper, and the glee club. At Dartmouth he majored in government and played lacrosse for four years. He was a brother of Psi Upsilon. Following graduation Bill sold insurance for Connecticut General for many years and then sold communications equipment for National Orders. He was an avid fisherman, having been taught by his mother, and enjoyed especially Friendship, Maine. He was an avid golfer and coached the West Hartford Lacrosse League. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol, and four children.
