George K. Tolford III ’60

George K. Tolford III ’60 of Westerville, Ohio, died on September 7. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, on January 11, 1938, the son of the late G. Kay Tolford Jr. and Anna Nordholt. He attended Ohio public schools in Tiffin and graduated from Swanton High School, where he is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame. At Dartmouth he was a member of the freshman football team. He graduated from Ohio State University (OSU), where he was a member of Sigma Chi. At OSU he was a three-year letterman for Woody Hayes and was drafted by the Washington Redskins. In 1964 George married Janice Louesa Jalbart, they divorced, and he married Jeanne Simpson. George worked in sales for Janitrol Division of Midland-Ross and then in accounting with Westinghouse Electric in Pittsburgh. In 1969 he joined Webster Industries in Tiffin as controller and retired on January 1, 2005, as executive vice president of manufacturing. He served on the Webster board from 1978 until 2010. Community activities included board positions at the YMCA and Webster Foundation and on the Mercy Hospital lay advisory board. He was a 45-year member of the Mohawk Golf Club and was granted an honorary membership in 2018. George was a member of Old Trinity Episcopal Church in Tiffin and St. Matthew’s in Westerville. He is survived by Jeanne, his wife of many years; daughters Tracey and Ann; and five grandchildren.
