Edward Willard Freedman ’54

Edward Willard Freedman ’54 passed away April 24 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Ned came from Springfield, Massachusetts, attended Technical High School in nearby Longmeadow, then MIT, and graduated from Dartmouth. He majored in economics and was a member of Gamma Delta Chi, Interfraternity Council, cheerleaders, and Air Force ROTC. After college he joined the family business, Keystone Plumbing Supply, working with his father and brother. Ned was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served as captain in Burlington, Vermont. He devoted his time to the community as a member of the Melha Shriners of Springfield and the Rotary Club. Ned was an artist, builder, creator, and businessman. His sculptures were exhibited in the Springfield Museum of Arts. He created sets for the Jewish Community Center of Springfield’s theatrical productions. The homes he and his wife, Debra, designed and built in Longmeadow, Clinton, Connecticut, and West Dover (near Mount Snow), Vermont, were the foundation for wonderful family times. Summers were spent at the beach, sailing, waterskiing, fishing, and playing tennis, while winters were for skiing. He was a creative craftsman in his workshop, building furniture for family and friends. In retirement he ran a cabinet business at home. He is survived by Debra, daughters Tabi and Marissa, son Eric, and four grandchildren.
