Joseph E. Sisson ’51
Joseph E. Sisson ’51 died on June 20 at his home in Winter Haven, Florida, where he had lived for 65 years. He also maintained a much-loved 98-year-old family summer cottage at Oak Point on the St. Lawrence River in northern New York State. Joe was a history major at Dartmouth and a member of Phi Gamma Delta. Following service as a U.S. Army cryptologist in Korea, he went back to school at the University of Florida for a degree in animal husbandry, furthering his lifelong interest in and love of animals. He learned the cattle business by working in both commercial and purebred ranch operations. He also served as a retail store manager and sales representative for a feed company. Late in his career he became a horticultural therapist in the mental health department of Winter Haven Hospital, sharing his extensive knowledge of gardening with patients there. Among other joys in Joe’s life were his family of three children, six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; music (he played the piano, accordion, and ukulele); and golf.
