James B. Dawson ’57
James B. Dawson ’57 of Nashua, New Hampshire, died May 30 of Covid-19. Jim graduated from East Orange (New Jersey) High School. He participated in the 3-2 plan, graduating from Dartmouth in 1957 and earning his M.B.A. from Tuck School in 1958. He was a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa, managing editor of the Aegis, and active in the Christian Union. He married Lucile, “Cile,” his lifelong partner and best friend. Jim worked in finance in New York City for the New York Telephone Co., the State University of New York, and Columbia University. Neither the big city jobs nor the suburban lifestyle proved appealing. Due in no small part to his time at Dartmouth, he looked to New England, moving his family to Durham, New Hampshire, along the seacoast. He joined a rapidly growing International Harvester dealership, then worked in various jobs in a long career in finance. Jim once said, “It is difficult to imagine living a lifestyle we first anticipated. In this area, we’re less than two hours from Hanover and the New Hampshire lakes and mountains; Boston is just over an hour away and…home is a very pleasant place to be.” Jim and Cile welcomed a constant flow of family and friends to their home. Their sons, Bill, Bob, and Dick, were active swimmers with the Oyster River Otters swim team. After retiring Jim and Cile traveled the world together, visiting four continents. He is survived by his sons and their families.
