Robert P. Fullerton ’51

Robert P. Fullerton ’51, a highly respected district court judge in Denver for 40 years, died on May 25 in Englewood, Colorado. Bob, a Denver native, enrolled in the University of Denver Law School immediately after graduating from Dartmouth. He hung out his shingle as a sole practitioner for three years before being named to the bench at age 29. In addition to his time on the district court he served for eight years as a federal bankruptcy judge and as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver Law School. He received a Judicial Excellence Award from the Denver Bar Association. Bob was an active volunteer in his community. He was a member of the board of the Central City Opera for more than 30 years. He also served on the boards of the National Sports Center for Disabled Skiers, the Denver Public Schools Foundation, and the Colorado Judicial Institute. He enjoyed the outdoors as a hiker, climber, fly fisherman, birder, and a skier. His aim was to ski in every month of the year; he and his wife, Beverlee, traveled widely to find suitable snow conditions. Bob’s outdoor interests were evident at Dartmouth, where he was active in the Canoe Club and the Outing Club. He earned his letter in track and was a member of Sigma Nu, the College radio station, and the Dartmouth Players. In later years, he chaired the Dartmouth Alumni Association of the Rocky Mountains on two occasions.
