Class Note 1938

At the 70th reunion we had the pleasure of meeting one of the Class of ’38 Scholarship Fund recipients, Cyrus Jon Akrami ’11. I recently received a letter from Cyrus and want to share his thoughts with you. By the time you read this, he will have graduated and started the next phase in his journey. The letter could have been written by one of the members of the Class of ’38—and probably was at one time!

“I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, and deciding to move across the country to Hanover was, in all honesty, absolutely frightening. I knew I wasn’t ready to move to a city like New York by myself, so the small-town feel of Dartmouth was more than welcome. I ultimately chose Dartmouth for its small size and undergraduate focus, and I have not looked back since. Now, as my four years come to a close, it’s been great to look back and reminisce on the reasons I fell in love with Dartmouth in the first place.

“I am currently vice president of my fraternity, Phi Delta Alpha, and we are wrapping up one of the busiest fall terms in recent memory. The fall was marked by Homecoming celebrations and the bonfire. Sadly, it was my last Homecoming as an undergrad, but I will unquestionably be back for years to come to celebrate the sense of tradition in the air that can’t be replicated anywhere else.”

(After finishing an internship at Goldman Sachs in New York City, Cyrus has accepted a full-time position at Goldman Sachs after graduation and is planning on moving to Manhattan with two of his closest friends from Dartmouth.)

“Now that I am closing in on the end of my Dartmouth career I have spent some time looking back and trying to understand how I could have come to love a place so much. As I spend the next two terms of senior year enjoying every moment I can (and praying that graduation doesn’t come too quickly), I’m going to look back and cherish everything Dartmouth has come to mean for me. But first I’d like you to know that without [the class of ’38] none of these opportunities would have been possible. Thank you, your contributions have meant more than you will ever know.” Enough said! Stay well!
