William H. Muldoon III ’63

William H. Muldoon III ’63 of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on May 3. Bill graduated from Texas Military Institute in San Antonio, attended the University of Michigan, and transferred to Dartmouth, where he majored in geology. Bill was a member of Delta Tau Delta, participated in the motor sports club, the Geological Society, the Outing Club, and Bait & Bullet. He pursued graduate work at the University of Texas. Bill received his commission at the Marine Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia. He transferred to Camp Pendleton in California and was discharged as a captain. Bill and his wife of 61 years, Nancy, moved to the U.S. Virgin Islands to start a commercial printing and newspaper business. They left the Caribbean when Bill took over as publisher of the Commerce (Texas) Journal, part of Harte Hanks Newspapers. He was promoted to director of national sales in the corporate office in San Antonio. The lure of small newspapers continued with his work in small towns in Kansas and Colorado until his retirement. Bill was a Rotarian for 40 years in various clubs and as district governor. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, served as a district chairman and on the council executive board, and received the Silver Beaver, the highest award by a local council. His hobbies were scuba and free diving and, in retirement, playing racquetball, skiing, and hunting. Bill is survived by Nancy, son William, daughter Shevaun, and their families.
