Herbert Ogden Morse Jr. ’55

Herbert Ogden Morse Jr. ’55 passed away at home on January 20. He is survived by his wife, Jane, and children H. Ogden III ’88, Lynda, and Susan. Ogden came to Dartmouth from Amesbury High School in South Hampton, New Hampshire. He majored in English and was a member of Alpha Theta. He also played two years of baseball. After receiving an M.A. in English from Yale in 1956, Ogden taught in high schools at Neenah, Wisconsin, and Fairfield, Connecticut, before becoming chairman of the English department at John Barlow High School in Redding, Connecticut. Retiring after 35 years of teaching, Ogden became a consultant to the College Board. He developed strategies for teaching English that were used by high schools throughout the United States.
