Ronald P. Rose ’52

Ronald P. Rose ’52 of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on September 28, 2018, the College recently learned. Ron was born on September 20, 1930, in Massachusetts and attended Newburyport High School in that state. After earning his A.B. in 1952 he added a master’s in engineering from the Thayer School in 1953. He was a member of Gamma Delta Chi, the Glee Club, and The Injunaires. Ron was an active alumnus of the College and attended almost every class reunion, including his 65th in 2017. In 1960 he earned a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Ron worked for many years until 1984 at the Bettis Atomic Laboratory at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh as a nuclear power generation engineer. This included two years as a visiting fellow at Princeton University. Ron also spent three years in Idaho on assignment with the Atomic Energy Commission. He then joined Goodyear Tire in Akron, Ohio, as tire research engineer, retiring in 1996. He had an avid interest in sports car racing and, as a member of the Sports Car Club of America, he was one of the original volunteers of the Pittsburgh Grand Prix. He is survived by children Linda, Randolph (and wife Carla), Pamela, and Bryan (and wife Sandi); nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and longtime companion Vera. He was predeceased by son Kenneth and father Arthur ’29.
