Yuan Zhang ’97

Yuan Zhang ’97 passed away on January 18. He was born March 13, 1975, and came to Dartmouth from Charlottesville, Virginia. Yuan majored in biology and studio art and was assistant photography editor for the Aegis and photography editor for The Dartmouth. He was a member of Tabard. Alex Hung ’97, Yuan’s freshman-year roommate, recalled Yuan as “a kind friend who looked after people and who would be willing to share whatever he had with you. He was an avid photographer who captured a lot of lasting images of Dartmouth scenery that I will never forget. He was a good man and will truly be missed.” Michael Ferchak ’99 recalled, “We shared so much time together in our lives—joking, laughing, cooking, drinking, talking. We lived together, traveled together, worked together. We had so much fun. Many people will probably say that Yuan was one of the best friends they ever had. He was one of mine.” Yuan is survived by numerous family members, including his mother and sister, and many friends.
