Jeremy Reitman ’66

Jeremy Reitman ’66, chairman and CEO of renowned retailer Reitmans Canada Ltd., died peacefully in Florida on December 28, 2019. At Dartmouth Jeremy was a member of Pi Lambda Phi and the Yacht Club and participated in hockey and skiing. He went on to earn a degree in civil law at McGill University before joining the family retail company started by his grandparents in 1926. Jeremy served as president of Reitmans before taking over as CEO and chairman in 2010. He steered the company through a rapidly changing retail landscape, contending with an influx of U.S. competitors and the rise of e-commerce. Reitmans remains one of the few Canadian chains, with 600 stores across the country. A former board member of the Bank of Montreal, McGill University, and Provigo and an alumnus of the Young Presidents’ Organization and World Presidents’ Organization, Jeremy was a passionate golfer, skier, Moishe’s regular, toastmaster, and philatelist. He was also a strong supporter of Israel and Jewish causes and a most devoted friend. Jeremy is survived by daughter Alexandra ’98 and her husband, Jesse; son Daniel; stepchildren Raine and Rebecca; grandchildren Jacob and Maya; and partner Penelope Rudnikoff. Contributions in Jeremy’s memory may be made to the “Jack Reitman Hillel House,” c/o Federation CJA.
