Richard Stark Little ’52

Richard Stark Little ’52 passed away in Morgantown, West Virginia, on October 23, 2019. He was a lifetime West Virginian, born on August 24, 1930, in Wheeling. After graduating from Triadelphia High School in Wheeling in 1948, he followed his older brother, Charles ’50, to the College. At Dartmouth Richard majored in geography, was a member of Phi Kappa Psi, and played basketball and football. After college Richard served in the U.S. Navy, retiring with the rank of lieutenant commander. He later served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He earned a Ph.D. in geography at Syracuse University and taught geography for more than two decades at West Virginia University before retiring. Richard and his first wife, Jacqueline, were married in California in June 1953. Sadly, she passed away in 1974. Richard then married Margaret, who also passed away in 2010 after some 30 years of marriage. Outside of his professional life, Richard was active in his community and especially interested in the outdoors and environmental issues in West Virginia. Richard is survived by children Doanda, Katherine, and Richard Jr. and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles.
