Thorwald N. Trolle ’51

Thorwald N. Trolle ’51 died in Jacksonville, Florida, on February 10. For 30 years he was corporate officer for General Motors and Xerox, in the United States and overseas. At Dartmouth Tom was a member of Sigma Chi. After serving in the U.S Air Force he returned to Hanover with his new bride, Lori, to complete a business degree at Tuck School. He later recalled that he and Lori “made 10,400 sandwiches” to help finance his final year in school. Tom worked for General Motors overseas operations from 1955 to 1968. A career highlight was his eight-year role as chief financial officer for GM Nordiska in Stockholm. He returned to the United States as assistant corporate controller for the parent company. He moved to Xerox in 1969, eventually becoming a corporate vice president with responsibility for several corporate staff functions, including manufacturing, distribution, administration, real estate, service, and systems. During his 18 years at Xerox he served in eight different roles, both domestic and international. Always active, Tom claimed he “had to fit in his five activities or be the first one on the chairlift for it to be a good day.” Besides skiing, he enjoyed tennis, golf, sailing, windsurfing, and kayaking. He contributed to the communities where he lived as chair the Stamford, Connecticut, Economic Development Corp. and the 2000 Fairfield, Connecticut, housing task force and as a board member of the Stamford Center for the Arts. He and Lori treasured their retirement years in Vero Beach, Florida.
