Thomas W. Hayden ’57

Thomas W. Hayden ’57 of Naples, Florida, passed away on June 8. Tom grew up in Auburn, Maine, and graduated from Edward Little High School. At Dartmouth he majored in engineering sciences and accounting and was active in the Canoe Club and ROTC, with the Navy corps his first two years before transferring to the Army corps for his last two years. He completed the combined Tuck-Thayer program in 1958 with an M.B.A. and an M.S. After marriage to Dory in 1961 and work in the corporate world, they moved in 1963 to a less-stressful atmosphere in Laconia, New Hampshire, to raise their son and daughter. In 1969 the family moved to Maine so Tom could join his father and brother in the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing (3M) Co. distributorship. For 31 years he represented the company, driving about 35,000 miles a year, usually with a shotgun and fly rod in the car. Tom served Dartmouth as club secretary in New Hampshire and Alumni Fund class agent. When Dory’s parents moved to Florida, they enjoyed visiting and in 2000 move there permanently. Tom is survived by Dory and children Stephen and Lisa.
