Joseph L. Kagle Jr. ’55

Joseph L. Kagle Jr. ’55 passed away on July 12 in Waco, Texas. He came to Dartmouth from Perry High School in Pittsburgh. Joe became a starting end on the football team, an illustrator for The Dart, and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Although he majored in English, Joe took many art courses with Paul Sample that inspired his career. After graduation Joe earned an M.F.A. at the University of Colorado, where he met Anne, his wife of 61 years. In addition to his own prolific output of art, Joe had the ability to energize a community in support of an art project. He headed five university art departments and six museums. Joe supported Dartmouth as an alumni interviewer and a contributor of art to the Hood Museum. In 2013 he received the Class of 1955 Award. Joe is survived by daughter Samantha Anne, son Christopher, and grandsons Erin and Matthews. He was predeceased by Anne.
