Victor Rudolf Trautwein Jr. ’52

Victor Rudolf Trautwein Jr. ’52 of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, passed away on June 26 in Hartford, Connecticut, after a brief illness. Vic was born September 28, 1930, in Chicago. He graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois, in 1948, Dartmouth in 1952, and Tuck in 1953. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. Vic served as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1956. Following the service, he joined R.R. Donnelly and Sons, first in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and then in Chicago in 1966. He rose to the post of financial director of its book group and retired in 1992. While in Lancaster he met and married the late Joanne (1934-1991). He is survived by son Victor III ’87 and his wife, Leslie; daughter Carrie and her husband, Jonathan; six grandchildren; and one sister. His second wife, Virginia, to whom he was married for 17 years, passed away in 2015. As an active alumnus of Dartmouth, he participated in fundraising and class events from graduation until his death. A lifetime athlete, he also helped organize and coach youth hockey both in Wilmette and Evanston, Illinois. He was also an accomplished musician and an active church member wherever he lived. He was a fine citizen
