Peter Dwight Jarvis ’59

Peter Dwight Jarvis ’59 died in an automobile crash on May 29. He entered Dartmouth from Garfield High School in Seattle and was a member of Psi Upsilon. Pete loved Dartmouth but the real love of his life, Sally Bergren, was attending the University of Washington when he was an undergraduate. He left Dartmouth after sophomore year and received his undergraduate degree in 1959 and his law degree in 1962 from the University of Washington. Pete and Sally were married in December 1959. He began his law career as a prosecuting attorney in the Seattle area and then joined the law firm of Montgomery, Purdue, Blankinship, and Austin, soon becoming a partner. In 1981 he began a long career as a judge in the Seattle area, first of the district court and later of the superior court of King County. After retiring for about four years in the early 2000s, he became a municipal court judge for Issaquah, Washington, for several years before retiring permanently. In 1972 he and Sally purchased a farm, where they raised their four children as well as numerous animals. They enjoyed skiing and purchased a home in Sun Valley, Idaho, and in 2015 moved permanently to Sun Valley. Sally also died as a result of the automobile crash. They leave children Scot, Eric, Molly, and Dwight and 12 grandchildren.
