Ernest Walter Dahl ’54

Ernest Walter Dahl ’54 passed away on April 24 in Sacramento, California. He came to Dartmouth from Kew Gardens, New York, where he attended Forest Hills High School. At Dartmouth he was an economics major and a member of the Dartmouth Outing Club and WDBS. After graduation he had a brief four-year business career, first as a management trainee with W.T. Grant in Connecticut and then at department stores in Peoria and Denver. Ernie received his doctorate in education from the University of Denver and a master’s in psychology from the University of Minnesota. He then worked at American River College in Sacramento for more than 30 years teaching psychology and serving as a student counselor. Ernie was the first full-time dean of counseling at American River and served as chief negotiator, representing faculty at three community college campuses. Among other recognitions he was honored with an Exceptional Service Award from the School Counselors Association for activities related to state legislation. He served as a member of the board of directors of the Mental Health Association of Sacramento and the Sacramento United Nations Association and volunteered at the Davis Mediation Center. After retiring he became a real estate agent, joining his wife, Kathy, in Lyon Real Estate. Ernie is survived by Kathy and children David, Andria, and Karen.
