Paul E. Strohl Jr. ’74

Paul E. Strohl Jr. ’74, died on April 11, 2016, after many years of illness. Formerly of Houston, Texas, Paul was a proud member of the Dartmouth community, having served as secretary, treasurer, and president of the Dartmouth College Club of Houston. At Dartmouth Paul was a member of Phi Tau and graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with highest distinction in government. Paul received his law degree from Harvard Law School and was admitted to the Texas bar in 1977. He practiced energy and corporate law in both Houston and Dallas. He was a partner in the Texas firms of Johnson & Swanson and Hutcheson & Grundy. At the time of his retirement in 2005, Paul was an equity shareholder of Winstead, Sechrest & Minick, where he led the energy practice group. Paul was active in the American Bar Association, the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, and the Southwestern Legal Foundation. He was a cofounder and longtime director of the Houston Technology Center, the technology and clean energy incubator. He was a former trustee of the Houston Ballet and a board member and past president of the Harvard University Club of Houston. Paul had an encyclopedic knowledge of classical music and was an avid pianist. One of Paul’s great joys was taking his sons to watch the Houston Astros. He is survived by sons John and Peter, his former wife of two decades, Sigrid, and sister Alicia ’86.
