John T. Guy ’60

John T. Guy ’60 died at Watson Fields, New Hampshire, on January 26. He was born April 6, 1938, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the son of Dr. John and Sarah Guy. John attended Lawrence Academy and Dartmouth, graduating with a degree in economics in 1960. He began a career in finance as vice president of Amoskeag Bank in Manchester, New Hampshire. In 1972, at the age of 34, he became New Hampshire’s youngest bank president by leading the Seacoast Savings Bank in Dover, a position he relished for two decades. Instead of retiring he opened his independent financial advisory, Guy Financial Group. John and Viki, his wife of 53 years, lived in Dover, where he was an active participant in Democratic politics and served as treasurer of N.H. Gov. Jeanne Shaheen’s successful campaign. For 30 years he sat on the board of trustees at Southeastern New Hampshire Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services, including a term as chairman in 1995. He also served on the boards at My Friend’s Place and Berwick Academy and was president of the Rotary Club, director of the Dover Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the N.H. Association of Savings Banks, and longtime chairman of the Dover Housing Authority. John was a devoted mariner and hiker, a tortured golfer, a lover of ice cream cones. He worked out every day. He is survived by Viki, four children, and six grandchildren.
