Richard Gould Brace ’54

Richard Gould Brace ’54 passed away on March 29 at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington, Massachusetts. Dick came to Dartmouth from Charles River, Massachusetts. He graduated from Phillips Andover Academy. At Dartmouth he was an economics major and a brother of Theta Delta Chi. Dick was a member of the track team and the Dartmouth Outing Club and director of freshman trips and Bait & Bullet. He spent two years in the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps, mostly in France. Dick was discharged as a first lieutenant. He then worked for New England Telephone and Telegraph (later Verizon), first as traffic manager and then as a billing manager. At the same time he earned his J.D. from Suffolk Law School (1961) and passed the Massachusetts bar (1962). Dick spent three years at the law firm of Sherburne, Powers, and Needham, then joined New England Mutual Life and then Sun Life of Canada, practicing contract law for 35 years. In retirement he enjoyed his lifelong interest in the outdoors. Dick is survived by his wife, Jane, and children Richard Jr. ’88 and Lindsey ’89.
