Jonathan Taylor Walton ’52, Tu’53

Jonathan Taylor Walton ’52, Tu’53, passed away on March 16 in St. Claire Shores, Michigan. Jon was born March 28, 1930, in Evanston, Illinois, and grew up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. He was a graduate of the Grosse Pointe High School in 1948. He then followed his older brother, Howard ’45, to Dartmouth, where he earned a bachelor’s in economics in 1952 and an M.B.A. from the Tuck School in 1953. He is a member of Phi Gamma Delta. Jon met his future wife, Salome “Sis” Edgeworth, while he was at Dartmouth and she attended Smith College in Massachusetts. They were married on November 27, 1954. After college he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a supply officer for three years. In 1956 Jon began a nearly 40-year career working for the National Bank of Detroit. He held a number of management positions, retiring in 1995 as executive vice president and a member of the managing committee. Jon also worked tirelessly for community causes ranging from education to healthcare to the promotion and revitalization of Detroit. Jon had a lifelong love of learning, especially history, and he was an avid sports fan. Jon is survived by Salome, his wife of 64 years; son Jonathan Jr. ’78 and his wife, Susan; daughter Katherine and her husband, Warren; daughter Lucy and her husband, James; son Andrew and his wife, Kathryn; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
