Edward H. Stone ’41

Edward H. Stone ’41 died in Burlington, Vermont, on January 29. He was an avid golfer and owner and trainer of thoroughbreds. His father, Robert, class of 1909, and son Robert II ’70 were Dartmouth graduates. Ed majored in economics and was a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa. After graduation he worked for his family business for a year before entering the Army and serving with the 24th Quartermaster Regiment in World War II. He left the Army as a captain and spent most of his adult life successfully training and breeding thoroughbred racing horses. His horses won many important races. One of his best, Jump for Alex, is still running and was nominated for the 2019 Triple Crown. In 2016 Ed was one of two surviving classmates to attend his 75th reunion at Dartmouth. He is survived by a daughter, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
