Richard S. Baillie ’41

Richard S. Baillie ’41 passed away on November 15, 2014. Dick was born in Cleveland and grew up in Hanover. At Dartmouth he was a sociology major and a member of the Yacht Club. Dick was also involved in men’s skiing and sailing. After graduation Dick earned the rank of lieutenant by commanding small ships for the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He married Marion Eldridge in 1941 and after the war they settled in Bourne, Massachusetts. Dick was the assistant scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 46 and the assistant director of Bourne Civil Defense, as well as a trustee of the Buzzards Bay Community Building. Dick later worked in the insurance industry for several years, in base publications from 1960 to 1964 at Otis Air Force Base, and for the Internal Revenue Service for 14 years. Marion died in 1977. After retiring, Dick traveled the country and married Irene Crowell in 1990. They settled in Coleman, Texas. He is survived by his wife, sons Paul and Stephen, two granddaughters, and two nieces.
