Nelson “Nels” Noren Ehinger Sr. ’52

Nelson “Nels” Noren Ehinger Sr. ’52 died in Darien, Connecticut, on August 11. He was born on September 8, 1929, in Dover, Delaware, graduated from Dover High School in 1947, then followed the family tradition by graduating from Northfield Mount Hermon Preparatory School (in 1948) and Dartmouth. He later earned an M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut. At Dartmouth he majored in economics, played clarinet with the Marching Band, and was a member of Delta Tau Delta. As a member of the Dartmouth track-and-field team, Nels excelled as a high jumper and won many events. He also was a multi-medal winner at the Millrose Games and Penn Relays during those years. The College honored these accomplishments when he was inducted into its athletic hall of fame, the Wearers of the Green. After college he had a long career at Aluminum Corp. of America as eastern regional sales manager, working in New York City, where he met his bride, Jeanne Sienkiewicz. They moved in 1960 to Darien, where they spent the rest of their lives. In retirement he enjoyed supporting local community efforts such as the Darien Library, Boy Scouts, and Friends of Woodland Park. He was married to Jeanne for 46 years; she predeceased him on February 21, 2008. He is survived by sons Nelson Jr., Jeffrey, and Christopher, daughter Geneve, and seven grandchildren.
