Michael Hurd ’59

Michael Hurd ’59 died on July 18, 2015. He entered Dartmouth from Swarthmore (Pennsylvania) High School and majored in history. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta and played on the lacrosse team. Following graduation Mike worked with PPG Industries for about 10 years and then shifted to a career in securities brokerage, including many years with E.F. Hutton and eventual retirement from A.G. Edwards. A resident of Norfolk, Virginia, for more than 40 years, he also loved to spend time at his beach house on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. In addition to his professional career, he was an active and caring citizen of the Norfolk-Hampton Roads community. Among other activities, he was founder and a long-time leader of the Harborfront Kiwanis Club, a fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital and a volunteer for Lee’s Friends (support for cancer patients and their families) and the Norfolk Master Gardeners. Mike was also very active in Dartmouth alumni affairs, serving in numerous capacities, including as president of the class of 1959 and of the Dartmouth Club of Hampton Roads. He leaves his wife, Marguerite; children Michael, Jennifer, Paul and Margaret; and nine grandchildren.
