Malcolm l. Jones Jr. ’71

Malcolm l. Jones Jr. ’71 passed away unexpectedly in the Lake Tahoe, California, area on July 17, 2023, while at a family reunion. Born on March 31, 1949, he was raised and attended high school in Aurora, Illinois. He followed his father, a proud member of the class of 1926, to Dartmouth. After graduation and a stint with Merrill Lynch, he raised funds as the College’s Midwestern regional director and simultaneously earned an M.B.A. from Northwestern University. Next came a career in public finance investment banking and institutional sales. Malcolm’s lifelong passions were music, theater, art, hiking, travel, and community service. He served many nonprofit organizations around the country that promoted these interests. Malcolm participated in many activities for the College and his class—he spent more than 40 years raising funds for Dartmouth, 35 years as a class executive, and a decade in mini-reunion planning and leadership. He rarely missed a class mini-reunion. Because of his many travels and commitment to building relationships, he probably knew on a personal basis as many classmates as anyone. Malcolm was predeceased by his parents and sister Sally. He leaves behind sisters Donna, Susan, and Linda; 13 nieces and nephews; and former wife, Karen. In September nearly 20 of his Dartmouth family celebrated his life at a service in Sausalito, California. His life and contributions were also remembered on campus by ’71s during the 2023 Homecoming Weekend.
