Louis J. Rovero ’57

Louis J. Rovero ’57, previously of Niantic, Connecticut, passed away August 3 in New London, Connecticut. Lou graduated from Putnam (Connecticut) High School as valedictorian and at Dartmouth majored in biology and was a member of Sigma Chi, Sphinx, the Newman Club, and Kappa Phi Kappa. Lou played football all four years and was a star running back during his junior and senior years. He earned a master’s in education from the University of Connecticut. During his 30-year career he taught math at Plainfield, Putnam, and New London high schools in Connecticut and was director of guidance counseling at New London Junior High School. Lou married Jeanne, his high school sweetheart, in 1956. They raised their five children in Putnam and Salem and later moved to Niantic. Lou and Jeanne traveled the United States camping with their children. His hobbies included gardening and nature, construction projects, crossword puzzles, and building model ships and an occasional rock wall. He taught others the importance of being a lifelong learner. Following retirement Lou worked a few years alongside his son-in-law remodeling homes. The couple enjoyed Winter Haven, Florida, during the winter months. He is fondly remembered for his generosity, strong work ethic, humility, strong sense of moral purpose, keen wit, intelligence, and dedication to his family. Lou’s wife, Jeanne predeceased him. Lou is survived by five children, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, five siblings, and a large extended family.
