Lester Robertson McCracken ’60

Lester Robertson McCracken ’60 died on January 4 in Bonifay, Florida. He graduated from Dartmouth with a major in mathematics and wrote for the College newspaper and the Aegis; although, by his own admission, “Two of my flaws are spelling and using the typewriter. I became a math major to avoid papers.” Immediately upon graduation he was channeled into an actuarial career. He was drafted and assigned to an office in Washington, D.C., where he learned that the Wyatt Co. needed full-time service personnel. Having completed several actuarial exams, he was hired immediately and remained with the company for 30 years, primarily helping the GM Co. with their union negotiations. Close to his retirement from Wyatt in 1993, Lester was introduced to Cathy, who he eventually married. The two of them moved to Bonifay, he said, “a little town she discovered in her travels as a dog trainer.” Cathy died in 2002. In his free time, Lester was a systems analyst for the American Association of Medical Assistants, an accomplished drummer, and a master duplicate bridge player with slightly more than 1,000 master points.
