Lawrence W. Guild II ’57
Lawrence W. Guild II ’57 of Laconia, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on July 4. Larry graduated from Governor Dummer Academy. He majored in government and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. His Fiji brothers became lifelong, devoted friends who made many lasting memories that Larry cherished. A hardworking and dependable man, Larry was employed by the family company, Guild Mills, before forming New Hampshire Textiles. He had many challenges as the New England textile business declined. One of the proudest accomplishments of his career was producing the fabric for Kermit the Frog and other Muppet characters. Upon his retirement Henson Associates commissioned a custom lookalike Muppet. Larry contributed to his community through the Gilford (New Hampshire) Fire Department and selectboard. He was a longtime member of the Gilford Outing Club, Winnipesaukee Yacht Club, and Laconia Rotary and served as director of the Village Bank & Trust in nearby Gilford. Larry was passionate about antiques and had an extensive collection of fire memorabilia, fire trucks, cars, toy tractors, and model boats. He traveled to car shows to display his many classic cars to fellow enthusiasts. Larry was an avid Boston sports fan who also supported local sport teams. He enjoyed sailing on Lake Winnipesaukee, gardening, and birdwatching. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughters Martha, Mindy, and Meg; stepsons Ryan and Scott; and many grandchildren.
