Lawrence A. Lubow ’57

Lawrence A. Lubow ’57 died on January 5. Larry came to Dartmouth from Weequahic High School in Newark, New Jersey. His major was modified philosophy and he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude. He was in Tau Epsilon Phi (executive committee, warden) and played baritone horn in the Dartmouth band. He received medical training at New York University School of Medicine and Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, New York, then served in the U.S. Air Force for two years, stationed in Austin, Texas. In 1967 Larry moved to Morristown, New Jersey, where he opened a practice in internal medicine and cardiology. He was the first formally trained cardiologist at Morristown Hospital. He served as chairman of cardiology as well as president of the Morris County Heart Association. His firm grew from two to 14 physicians. In 1987 Larry bought a second home in Vermont, 45 miles from Hanover, which was his place to get away from stress, read a book, sit on the deck, ski in the winter, and play golf in the summer. A tennis player and an avid gardener, Larry also loved music. As a young man he played clarinet in a jazz band in the Catskills, New York. In his 40s he learned to play piano and enjoyed the music of Cole Porter, George Gershwin, and others from the era of the Great American Songbook. Larry was an Alumni Fund volunteer. He is survived by Susan, his wife of 62 years; son Jonathan ’89; daughter Elizabeth; and grandchildren.
