Larry K. Elliott ’57

Larry K. Elliott ’57 passed away peacefully at home on July 16, 2021. Larry grew up in Scarsdale, New York, played piano as a kid, and had perfect pitch. He was a member of Chi Phi and cofounder of the Indian Chiefs, playing at fraternities, New Year’s Eve on The Tonight Show, and concerts at Carnegie Hall and Symphony Hall in Boston. Perhaps his favorite gig was spring break in Bermuda. He left Dartmouth before graduating to join the U.S. Air Force, with which as navigator he logged 229 missions over Vietnam, earning 11 Air Medals and two Distinguished Flying Crosses. He was then stationed at Strategic Air Command headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, earned his degree from University of Nebraska, and eventually retired as lieutenant Commander (20 years of service). Larry moved his family to Lake of the Pines in the Sierra Nevada mountains (northern California), his home for the next 43 years. His second career was as a real estate broker (owner of Real Estate Center brokerage). He was president of the Nevada County Board of Realtors (1987-88) and honored as 1991 Realtor of the Year. He volunteered at the Magnolia and Bear River high schools with music programs and was known as “Papa Jazz.” Larry retired in 2000, which gave him time for golf. He proudly displayed his two hole-in-one plaques and took a several golfing vacations, including to St. Andrews in Scotland. Larry is survived by Ann, his wife of 55 years, daughter Lynn, son Steven, and their families.
