Joseph Hastings Lyon ’52

Joseph Hastings Lyon ’52 passed away in Saint Charles, Illinois, on November 25, 2019, of Alzheimer’s. Joe was born on January 5, 1929, and lived most of his pre-college life in Brattleboro, Vermont. After graduating from high school in Brattleboro, Joe served for almost two years as an electronics technician in the U.S. Navy. He then came to Dartmouth, graduating in 1952 with a combined sociology-psychology degree. He was a member of Zeta Psi. Joe worked for 11 years in sales and sales management at Markem Machine Co., then joined the Dukane Corp. and moved to Saint Charles. At Dukane he served as product manager for the games division and as head of new product development. Joe and Barbara Osborne, a 1952 graduate of Middlebury College, were married in June 1953 and celebrated their 66th anniversary in 2019. She survives him, as do children Stacy, Joseph Jr., Meredith, and Sydney and seven grandchildren. After retirement, Joe and Barbara were able to travel extensively, including numerous trips to Scotland.
