Jon T. Anderson ’55

Jon T. Anderson ’55 passed away on November 6, 2016, in Burlington, Vermont. Jon was a native of Troy, New York, who came to Dartmouth from Albany Academy. He majored in education and was an outstanding athlete. He played end on the football team and was an All-American lacrosse player. He was president of Psi Upsilon and was a member of Casque & Gauntlet and NROTC. After serving five years as a lieutenant in the Navy Seals, Jon earned a master’s of education from the University of Virginia. He also taught a course in navigation to the NROTC students. For the next 15 years Jon served as financial aid officer and athletic director at Cornell University. During these years he was a member of the Ithaca, New York, school board and president of the United Way campaign. Moving to Statesville, North Carolina, in 1975, Jon worked in financial operations for the World Football League and Arnold Palmer Cadillac before joining Raymer Oil Co., where he worked until he turned 80. Jon leaves behind his high school sweetheart and wife of 62 years, Mary, daughter Carol ’79, son Jon, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
