John Warner IV ’76

John Warner IV ’76 of Melvin Village, New Hampshire, and Clinton, Illinois, died June 12 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 69. Warner was born January 22, 1954, in Clinton to John and Dorothy (DuQuoin) Warner III. Warner graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in 1972 and Dartmouth in 1976. Warner began working at the John Warner Bank, founded by his great-great-grandfather in 1867 in Clinton. Starting in the bookkeeping department, Warner worked his way up, serving as chairman and CEO for nearly a decade. The family sold the bank in 1997. Warner was a partner in Warner & Kolb Family Farms, LLC, and in 2019 retired from Moore & Warner Ag Group, LLC, the farm-management firm he founded in 2000. Warner served as a trustee of Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois; was a member of the University of Illinois College of Agriculture’s agricultural economics advisory council; and served on the board and as executive director of The Wright Museum of World War II in Wolfeboro, Vermont. He was instrumental in establishing an environmental studies course at Exeter Academy. In 2015 Warner started the Warner Foundation, whose mission is to support opportunities for youths who improve education, develop character, and foster a broad worldview. Survivors include sister Kathryn, “adopted” children Jonah and Maureen, and “adopted” grandchildren Pierce and Maude.
