John W. Cusick ’57

John W. Cusick ’57 passed away on September 25, 2024, in Vero Beach, Florida. John graduated from Valley High School (Louisville, Kentucky). He majored in philosophy-comparative literature and belonged to Phi Delta Theta (house manager). In his senior year he was class president and a member of the Dartmouth Christian Union, Undergraduate Council, and Palaeopitus. He went on to graduate from executive programs at Institut Européen d’Administration des Affaires in France and the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School. He served four years in the U.S. Navy (communications officer). John worked at AT&T in various positions leading at mid-career to division marketing manager in Chicago. Subsequent international work assignments included serving as president of AT&T Taiwan and AT&T Japan. He became AT&T’s senior executive in Central Europe with responsibility for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. He had a home in Eze, France. John joined NYNEX Network Systems (predecessor to Verizon) as vice president and managing director for Europe. In 1994 he joined Eurus Technologies as managing director. There he was part of strategic partnering and business development for a pan-European rail-telephone network, a Czech Republic satellite business, and a joint venture between the Monaco government and the Soros telecom group. He retired in 2007. As class secretary (2017-24) John was well known to ’57s for his exceptionally creative Class Notes. John is survived by Lyn, his wife of 36 years; children Sharon and Gregg; and Lyn’s children John and Andrew.
