John T. Porvaznik ’55

John T. Porvaznik ’55, M.D., retired rear admiral of the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS), died on June 22, 2021. He is survived by his children, John, Mark, and Mary. Jack came to Dartmouth from Duquesne High School in Pennsylvania. After receiving his M.D. from Harvard Medical School, Jack completed his surgical residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. He then spent 30 years serving Native American reservations in Arizona and New Mexico. Jack served his final four years as chief medical officer of Indian Health Services in Washington, D.C. Following his USPHS retirement, Jack continued his medical career with Spectrum Emergency Services as chief medical officer at Spectrum headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri.
