John Peter “Jack” Barclay Jr. ’52

John Peter “Jack” Barclay Jr. ’52 of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away on February 6. He was born on January 16, 1930, in New Haven, Connecticut, attended Hopkins School in New Haven, and graduated from Dartmouth and Tuck Business School (1954). He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and captain of the rowing club. After two years of service in the Army, Jack joined the family business, Wire Rope Corp. of America Inc., serving from 1957 to 2003, when he retired as chairman and CEO. The company was founded in New Haven by Jack’s father in 1923 and moved to St. Joseph in 1950. Although Jack spent his entire career with the corporation, he also participated in many other business interests and activities during his lifetime, including industry and local civic and community organizations. Jack married Billie Jewell Kissane on December 12, 1967. They built their life in St. Joseph, where they raised their children. Jack was a lifelong enthusiast of cars and airplanes. He had his pilot’s license and flew many types of airplanes from single engine to jets. He and Billie traveled extensively, often he would do the flying. He was preceded in death by Billie in 2003 and son Jeffrey in 1990. Survivors include children Lee, Vicky, Megan, and John III and seven grandchildren.
